This month Chrome will change a function on their browser that will NOW indicate that ALL websites will be NOT SECURE if the site does not have an SSL Certificate. The message "Not Secure" will appear in front of your domain name when someone lands on your website using the browser Chrome, which is now the world's number 1 browser! So, the chances are most people who land on your site will be using Chrome and be potentially put off from using the website.
What is SSL?
SSL is a security technology used for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browser remain private.
Is SSL good for SEO? Yes!
Here is Googles statement referencing this:
"Over the past few months we've been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We've seen positive results, so we're starting to use HTTPS (SSL) as a ranking signal" Google.
In a nutshell having an SSL Certificate will instil customer confidence and peace of mind when they apply their private, personal or monetary information into your website. Also you definitely don't want to have the "Not Secure" message in front of your domain name!It will also help improve your page rank on Google which in turn should provide a higher position in the search results.
